About Us
OUR MISSION
We hope to facilitate and encourage a passion for Jesus that naturally emanates into every aspect of life. We don’t want people to simply attend a church meeting every week. Our desire is that people will encounter and experience God not just on Sunday morning but each and every day as we continue to seek Christ together.
At Salt Church, we aspire to 3 key characteristics:
- Showing Inclusivity Authentically
True inclusivity means accepting everyone as they are with no strings attached. No expectations. Salt church is a place for people of all walks of life to explore spirituality in their own unique way without having to fit into a specific mold or without others expecting them to change. We believe in the life changing power of Christ to work inside of everyone. Our simple hope is to provide an atmosphere for all people to find God and participate in worship.
- Living Freely
Following Jesus is not about reducing experiences into do’s and do not’s. It is also not a life of doing whatever feels right and expecting grace to work. The grace and peace of Christ Jesus means that we don’t have to fear sin and death. As we aspire to be more like Jesus, we are then free from trying to be good enough or have enough faith. Accepting that Christ is all we need allows us to freely live in pursuit of Him.
- Transcending Discipleship
At Salt Church, we believe that discipleship should never be a means to an end, where we work towards making others think like us. And it is certainly not about us modeling perfect behaviors for others. Our faith journeys are filled with mistakes and questions as we seek the mystery that is Christ. We aim to go beyond traditional views of discipleship and instead forge meaningful relationships. Sharing in our life experiences and walking hand in hand in our pursuit of God’s love.
OUR TEAM
Mario and Susan Ray
Lead Pastor
A native of Columbus, Mario and his wife Susan settled in his home town after both retiring from the United States Army. Mario is a graduate of Liberty University with a degree in Christian Leadership. He and Susan served in various leadership roles at Vital Church until becoming the lead pastors in December of 2018. Vital Church transitioned to Salt Church of Columbus in May of 2020 with the intent of redefining the church’s mission towards Columbus and its surrounding areas. Mario is the owner of Mister’s Barbering Co. He and Susan ave been married since 2004.
